![]() Overall, Drill Cannons is a spell that is a bit of a gamble. Another suggestion would be for Deep Freeze to trigger the boosted potency as well, but considering that would basically eclipse the bonus potency potential of The Dragon’s Voice without raising the current potency, you’d never use it if given a choice. So, for a suggestion on improvements, I would actually like to see that the spell either has its falloff damage removed while in the role of DPS or have a chance of inflicting a status effect that reduces the enemy’s physical damage output. Without Petrification, its just a moderately average Line spell that has to compete with similar spells that have bonus effects like Bind, Paralysis, and Slow. There are several drawbacks to needing to use that spell, which bleeds over to this one. However, the drawback to reach that point is that the enemy has to be petrified and the only spell that you have access to that can do so as of Patch 5.15 is Level 5 Petrify. That’s an insane amount of damage for a single spell that doesn’t incapacitate the player. And when boosted by Whistle, that potency increases to 1080. You see, while Drill Cannonshas a modest potency of 200 with 50% falloff, which is roughly the standard for AoE Blue Magic spells, when used on an enemy that has Petrification inflicted on them the potency triples into whopping 600 potency. ![]() Fittingly enough, it also happens to be one of the spells that has the highest damage potential available through the use of spell-chaining. Like the physical drills upon which they are patterned, these projectiles excel at penetrating stone.ĭrill Cannonsis one of the bread-and-butter spells that are available to Blue Mages due to it originally being one of the only Line spells, which has a radius and range of 20 yalms in a straight-line. This technique mimics the Drill Cannons of machina by winding aetherial currents until they resemble rapidly spinning projectiles. In this case we’ll be going over the fifth spell in the spell book: Drill Cannons. Welcome to the fifth entry of the Blue Magic Curriculum, where we talk about the spells found in the Blue Mage Spellbook, along with their strengths, weaknesses, and what about them could be improved.
